About Mia

Born a Connecticut Yankee in nobody’s court, Mia Darien grew up to brave snow and talk fast. She started reading when she was three and never looked back, soon frequently falling asleep with a book under her cheek. (Something she still does, though these days it’s her Nook as often as a paperback.)

At eleven, she discovered Night Mare by Piers Anthony and entered the world of grown-up fantasy fiction and it was all over from there. She started writing at fourteen, then met vampires as a teenager and the concept for what would become Adelheid was soon born. Epic fantasy remains her first love, but she enjoys writing whatever stories come to mind in any genre.

Now she loves both writing and helping her indie community with her freelancing. A geek till the end, she enjoys role-play by email games and World of Warcraft when she has the time. Married to her very own Named Man of the North, she lives with him, their mini-tank (also known as their son) and pets, who usually act more childish than the child.

Book Review: Written All Over Her by Mia Darien

           Book description:

My Review

"Written All Over Her" captivated me from the first pages. A thoroughly enjoyable story by Mia Darien. Interesting characters and plot twists; this one packs a lot into a relatively short read.

I have always enjoyed detective stories and Mia Darien's novel is a classy one. Nykk Marlowe and Vance Johnson, her partner, and a shifter too, are confronted with a serial killer. Nykk's life plate is full: not only that she has to deal with her personal problems - she takes care of  her younger sister Ann, who has Down Syndrome and also has to get over her nightmarish past when she was brutalized and nearly killed - but she also has to deal with a murderer who, she suspects, is the one responsible for her scarred face and soul.

A real page turner that keeps you wondering and guessing up to the end.

The flashes, back and forth, help you better understand the character's motivation and determination in her action.

The characters are well-developed, each of whom brings his own expertise to this search for the perpetrator. I commend Mia Darien for her vivid and fluid narrative. There's no shortage of page-turning drama that kept me perfectly engaged.

If it's thrills that you seek, "Written All Over Her" will not disappoint you. It deserves five stars.

My review

Steel Wings, set in a futuristic world, is a compelling story for the lovers of this genre. I can truly say Sci-Fi is not my favorite genre of books and yet, after a friend recommended it, I read it and it was worth the time. This book is about cyber warfare and romance and adventure.

          

Well-written, with a strong female character, Jesse, and a fast paced plot it is an enjoyable read for older teens and adult. It has interesting characters that have good depth to them. I really like the way the plot and the characters were developed. Will Jesse succeed in regaining what she once lost, the love of her life?

Steel Wings is a light romance story that, once again, reminded me that love is powerful and if two people are meant to be together, then they will find each other  in the end. 

 The only fault I find in this story is the fact it's too short. It ends too soon. I gladly give it what it deserves: 5 stars.

 Review: “Shadows of the Past” by Carmen Stefanescu


Shadows of the Past by Carmen Stefanescu. I received this free from the author. It is available from Wild Child Publishing.

The twists and turns in this paranormal tale keep the reader guessing up to the end and weave themselves together into a quest to rekindle love.

Review: Normally, I review self-published authors, but I am willing to do small press releases sometimes and this is from someone I know online. I actually read this book pre-release when I was giving the author a little help on the manuscript, but I’m very happy to see that it’s out and available now.

I found this book to be very intriguing. It jumps between the tale of Genevieve in medieval times to Anne in modern times, and weaves their tales together. The darkness and troubles that blend through the lives of the two women and the paranormal edges to it all gave it a very eerie atmosphere, and it was interesting to see the relationships develop.

It also went one place where I was wondering how the author would manage something, but then she surprised me and I liked that. It is always good to have an author manage to catch you like that. Though even though it was a surprise, afterwards it was like… Well, it couldn’t have happened any other way, really.

I enjoyed it, and I think others will too. A solid 4 Fireballs.
