Wednesday Writing Wisdom (7) J K Rowling
“I always advise children who ask me for tips on being a writer to read as much as they possibly can. Jane Austen gave a young friend the same advice, so I’m in good company there.”

Curious facts about
JK Rowling went from being unemployed to becoming a multi-millionaire in five years. However, as a teenager she lived in a Grade II listed cottage in Gloucestershire, which she states was "not a particularly happy time in my life", due to her mother being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and a strained relationship with her father.
The original HARRY POTTER manuscript was rejected by 12 publishing houses before Bloomsbury picked it up.
In 2013 she released a crime novel under the pen name "Robert Galbraith"
JK Rowling was awarded an Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2000
According to a recent interview, JK Rowling admits to buying her wedding dress for her second marriage to Neil Murray in disguise, to avoid being recognized - such was the price of fame.
It's amazing what she did with the Harry Potter series. And can you imagine those 12 publishers who rejected the first manuscript? I can only imagine how foolish they feel now. Good for JK for persevering, otherwise we might never have gotten to discover Harry and Hogwarts!
ReplyDeleteIt set a trend in fiction. I even played a computer game made on this series. It serves those publishers right. Snobs!
