So, the four questions:
1) What am I working on?
I am in the stage of edits with my paranormal historical Dracula’s Mistress. I already signed the contract with Wild Child Publishing, USA. It's the same publisher as for Shadows of the Past, my paranormal romance that was released in 2012. What I can tell you, for the moment, is that Dracula's Mistress goes against the grain. After you read it you'll understand. The mystery genre appeals to me, too, and I’m working on a paranormal novel with elements of mystery. No title yet. It will come after I am ready.
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
A tough question. I'm sure all writers are asked it. The answer would be better given by the readers of my novels. All I can tell you is that I like to have an open ending for my stories. You will ask why. When I leave a story open ended, this means I invite the readers to use their imagination. They don’t know, in detail, what happens to the characters in the end; based on the story and on what has occurred thus far, they can wager a guess and infer an ending in order to satisfy their need to tie up the loose ends in their minds. As long as readers tell me they can relate to my characters, this is all that matters.
3) Why do I write what I do?
I write paranormal, not because I live in Dracula’s country, but because I’ve always been interested in, and am attracted by paranormal phenomena. And of course by paranormal stories. Both reading and writing them. Not vampires, but ghosts, reincarnation, karmic retribution. I believe that our soul is immortal. Should it be my fear of the eternity of nothingness? May be! I can't really say.
4) How does my writing process work?
I like to have everything handy: paper, pencils, markers, ballpoint pens. And some background, low music, either classical or pop. During summer holidays, usually in the morning, I retreat to my “writing room” and loose myself in the imaginary realm of my characters and plots. I only write when I am truly inspired. I write everything from start to finish. When ready, I put the draft away for a day or two. Then, I come back to it and while reading again, I add or cut parts/dialogue/characters and I edit. I must tell you that what I like best about writing is making up characters, watching them develop and turn into people. I love doing the background research and writing; editing and reading the manuscript endlessly to spot spelling mistakes or inconsistencies means a real challenge. Once I get going, though, I’m alright.

Zrinka Jelic lives in Ontario, Canada. A member of the Romance Writers of America and its chapter Fantasy Futuristic &Paranormal, as well as Savvy Authors, she writes contemporary fiction--which leans toward the paranormal--and adds a pinch of history. Her characters come from all walks of life, and although she prefers red, romance comes in many colors. Given Jelic's love for her native Croatia and the Adriatic Sea, her characters usually find themselves dealing with a fair amount of sunshine, but that's about the only break they get.
