Romantic Date Ideas to Try this Summer
As summer hits
and kids explode from school in a frenzy of inactivity, it’s important for
couples to carve out time for themselves. As a romance author, I have jot down
date ideas. If I need an idea for a scene I’m writing, I skim through and see
if any of them fit.
Let me know what
you think of my ideas:
1.
Yard/Estate
Sales
Rummaging through
someone else’s stuff may seem weird at first, but you’ll likely find all sorts
of items to laugh about together or something that brings up a special memory.
And, you never know, you might find something great at an incredible bargain.
What’s more romantic than saving money?
2.
Have
a Picnic
For something a
little different, grab a basket or a cooler and get inventive! Prepare
something in advance, or simply toss in a good baguette, artisanal cheese, and
quality deli meat, and treat yourselves to a meal in a local park, field, or
your own backyard. Don’t forget the most important part of any picnic -- plenty of
chilled rose wine!
3.
Go
Wine Tasting
Sitting among the
vineyards and sampling a winery's latest isn’t as pretentious as it sounds—it
can be downright cheap. Tastings at most wineries are under $10, and some are
even free. Vineyards offer beautiful landscapes and can be quite romantic. The
perfect scenery to express your summer love.
4.
Float
a Boat
If you live near a body of water,
chances are you have access to a boat. Bring fishing rods, bait or lures, and
spend a relaxing day drinking beers and bobbing on the water. At the best,
you’ll catch dinner. If nothing nibbles except your date, you both can always
jump in the water for a quick dip.
If you have ideas
to share, I’d love to hear them.
Remedy Maker – Blurb
Man by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy
maker who needs his own healing.
He's
the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and posttraumatic stress
disorder has broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness.
Then a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of
his secluded cabin at the edge of the forest.
Patience is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph
who works as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.
Environmental
pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is
slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out
to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught
her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He
doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.
When
Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability to control his
disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares, and Patience
draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint venture into a
deadly bout.
Will
their love endure when survival hinges on trusting each other?
Remedy Maker – Excerpt
Scene setup:Shapeshifting Centaur Rhycious, in his human form, has
encountered rebels who wish to overthrow the Centaur kingdom:
*****
Backed by a roar of the hundred ghostly Centaurs who
terrorized him in a PTSD alternate reality, Rhycious heaved to his feet. With a
determination equal to the dead coming back to life, he thrust his sword upwarddiagonally,
catching Dryas by surprise. The honed edge of his trusty weapon sliced the
traitorous soldier’s thigh wide open.
Blood spurted and Dryas cried out, stumbling away.
Inertia carried Rhy’s blade along its path of destruction and then rocketed
down. His mind locked on a time long ago when the Reaper welded crushing blows.
He tightened his single-handed grip on the sword’s leather-bound handle andcarved
a clean line deep across the enemy’s cheek.
Stretched to their limit, the ligaments in his
shoulder burned as he cleaved the heavy sword. With two powerful forward lunges,
he confiscated additional ground. Then spinning on the ball of his foot,
Rhycious streaked for the screaming Nymph.

Rhycious sounds like an interesting character. I have a weak spot for tormented, conflicted heroes, LOL!
ReplyDeleteWishing Sheri the best with her newest release!
Such heroes always get readers' interest and sympathy.
DeleteThanks for checking our tour, Mae!
