Guest Promo (XV) #RockingSummerRomance

Let's welcome warmly today my fellow author and friend
Tina Gayle and her novel Baby Decision in the Rocking Summer Romance project she was so awesome to initiate.

Blurb -
Susan York faces the biggest decision of her life. "A baby or college?"
Unmarried and confused, Susan is not looking for a guy. She only wants to get through her classes without getting sick.
Colt Lefevour needs help with his English Lit homework until he discovers Susan is pregnant. Hurt from his ex-girlfriend aborting his baby, he wants to be the father of Susan’s baby, but can he convince her to let him help?

Excerpt:
“It just doesn’t make sense to me, Kelly. He’s a smart guy. Why would he need me to help him with the class?” Susan watched the blade of the knife go through the onion. She was glad her job in Kelly and Jason’s household didn’t include cooking. Kelly had insisted she liked the chore. Susan, as the maid, only had to clean up.
“Jason is a smart guy, too. But he can’t spell worth a damn,” Kelly said around the matchstick in her mouth. Susan really didn’t believe the technique kept the tears away.
“Yes, but Jason loves you.” Susan wondered if anyone could not find Kelly loveable. Besides being a beautiful blonde with blue eyes and a killer figure, she was smart. Too bad she...
“Maybe, but when we were teamed up together in the master’s program, he was a royal pain.” Kelly threw the match in the trash. “I think the man went out of his way to find big words to use in our report so he could ask me how to spell them.” She scooped onion pieces off the cutting board and put them into a skillet. “And believe me, he was just like Colt. Jason wanted me to go out with him, and he thought if he pestered me enough, I’d give in.”
“So what should I do?” Susan shifted on the wooden barstool to get more comfortable. The baby rolled over and stretched. The soft pressure against the wall of her abdomen drew her hand to her stomach. “The man is hot. I’ll never be able to resist him.”
“What’s wrong?” Concern rang in Kelly’s voice.
“Nothing, why?” Susan said, confused by the quick shift in topics.
“You had a funny look on your face.” Kelly picked up the green bell pepper and started chopping.
“Oh, the baby is moving.”
“Really?” Kelly’s eyes lit up.
Susan knew how much Kelly wanted to have a baby. It was part of the reason she was living with Kelly and Jason. “Do you want to feel the power of an all-star kicker?”
“Yes.” Kelly put down her knife and walked around the counter.
Her hand must have alerted the baby, because a kick hit Kelly’s palm.
“It must be amazing to feel a little person growing inside you,” Kelly said in awe.
“Usually.” Susan shrugged. “Sometimes, though, it’s more discomfort than amazement. Like at night when the baby wakes me, or during the day when he lays on my bladder. Sometimes I feel like an alien is invading my body, with demands I can’t meet.”
“You know you don’t have to face this alone. Jason and I will help you in any way we can, even if you don’t want to let us adopt your baby.” Kelly placed her hand on Susan’s shoulder. “You know we think of you as part of the family.”
“Yes, but...” Susan didn’t want to go over this again, but she still didn’t know what she should do. “If I keep the baby, how will I be able to go to school and get a degree? And if I let you and Jason adopt it, my parents will never forgive me.”
Susan ran her hand along the edge of the cold granite countertop. “You know my dad. He still refuses to talk to me.”
“He’ll come around.” Kelly walked back into the kitchen. The scent of onions filled the room when she stirred them in the pan. “You have to give him a little time, and try to see it from his point of view. Not only does he feel like he’s losing you, but he thinks he’s losing his grandchild too.”
“But why can’t he see this as a decision I have to make for myself? I want to get an education so I can make a good living, but I can’t if I’m trying to take care of a baby.”

Guest Promo (XIII)

My special guest today is fellow author and friend Robin Leigh Morgan. She will tell you a bit about herself and her writing.

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?

I’m a retired NYCity employee who’s been married for twenty years sans children.  While “I Kissed a Ghost”, a YA [Young Adult] Paranormal/Time Travel/First Kiss romance, is my first self-published romance endeavor it’s not the first romance I’ve tried to write. For several years I wrote commentaries for a community newspaper, and during this time I began to write an adult Contemporary romance [I also worked full-time during this period.] Once I retired I began writing it on a more regular basis. However I never really felt it would be good enough even to bother to self-publish. Then someone suggested I write for a younger audience, I took the advice a few months later writing my first romance novel, a YA Paranormal/Time Travel/First Kiss novel entitled “I Kissed a Ghost.”

When I write I’m much more a panster than a plotter, so naturally the story basically unfolded with the paranormal element becoming an essential part to the storyline.

Please tell us about your latest release.
In "I Kissed a Ghost", Mary gets a new classmate named Jonathan who’s a great baseball player and to get on the team, he needs Mary’s help to improve his grades. Six months later when she learns she’s moving, she decides to give him something special--a first kiss. Moving into her new home she soon discovers it has a ghost named George, her age, who takes her on numerous trips to the past of a hundred years ago. As she meets children her own age, everyone teases her about her house being haunted, but no one will go inside. Mary likes his help doing her math homework, writing her reports, and taking her back in time. George and Mary’s interaction grows and she eventually gives him a quick peck on his lips while they’re in the past, which is the only place George is a real boy, for having done something special for her. Can Mary kiss George again at the special date and time he needs to be kissed? What happens afterwards if she does? The answers are all in the book!

Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?

It would have to be Mary going through a vital period of her life, just beginning finding out boys, and giving that all important first kiss on the cheek to one. Then almost immediately at the end of the school year she finds out she must move with her parents several states away because her father had just gotten a big promotion on his job. She now must deal with becoming the new kid in town, with all the problems which goes with that, like making new friends. Since she moved into a house everyone teases her about it being haunted, which is why nobody wants to go inside. Little do they realize Mary actually has a friendly ghost living there, his name is George. And he eventually becomes her best friend, who takes her on trips to the past of a hundred years ago; it’s there he becomes a real live boy, and where Mary gives him a quick peck on his lips.

How did you select the title for your book?

When I started, selecting the title for my book had been a very challenging experience for me; but after racking my brain over it, I finally decided to merely summarize the premise for the entire story in as few words as possible until I had something which could be used as the title. Since the story is about a girl [Mary] and her kissing the ghost [George] she had living in her house, the story had to be called, “I Kissed a Ghost.”

Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?

I enjoy listening to the music of my youth, the 1950’s and the 1960’s; as well as some music from the Big Band era of the 1940’s. I also watching entire old television series on DVDs and streaming on my computer.
For today’s movies, it’s SciFi, comedies, and animation. And of course it’s being on the internet with my reading public

What is the most difficult part of the entire writing process for you? Queries, pitches, editing..etc.
Since I enjoy writing, the biggest problem I’ve found is keeping those creative juices flowing inside those little grey cells of my mind.

What can readers expect next from you?
I’m currently working three projects. One of which is a total rewrite of the adult Contemporary I started years ago. It now has a paranormal element running through parts of the storyline, and is now entitled “His Darkest Secret.”

Since January 2013, I’ve found a love in writing Flash Fiction, so I’m compiling an anthology of them.

For my third project I started to write a stand-alone YA Urban Fantasy entitled “The Secret of the Well.” But after getting a review and a few messages asking me if there would be a sequel to “I Kissed a Ghost,” I added a new first chapter and rewrote some of what I’d already written, it has now actually become the sequel.
Where can we find you on the internet?

Guest Promo (XII)

Let's give a big hand to my guest today, my friend and fellow author Cassandra Ulrich and her latest release

              Billiard Buddies

Blurb
An avid pool table player, Gina has yet to meet her match among her billiard pals.  Pete O’Reily, one of the guys she plays against at a local bar, finds someone he thinks will finally give her a challenging game.

Gina was thrilled she could finally compete with someone who sharpened her skills, but Sean Savage became much more to her after a few games.  She started falling in love with Sean who remained loyal to his career-focused girlfriend, Cindy.  Gina, having been hurt by a cheating ex-boyfriend, is determined not to cause the same pain to any woman.  Because of this, she keeps her feelings for Sean a secret from everyone except her flamboyant cousin Gene and a girlfriend on the other side of the city.

Without realization, Sean stretches her ability to do this whenever he visits her like she’s one of the guys.  Conflict occurs on many fronts: Gina avoids her ex, Hank, who wants to get back together; Sean longs to marry Cindy who spends more time at work than with him; and Gina has a falling out with Sean when he tries to set her up with a friend of his.

Will true love prevail?

Excerpt

“I hear you play a mean pool game,” Sean started.  He couldn’t help but agree that she was cute, her round 1920’s features hugged by blond curls that bounced just above her jaw line when she turned to face him.  Her smile accentuated her sparkling eyes.

“I heard the same about you.  I think the guys brag too much.  I love the game and practice a lot.  Where do you play?  I’ve never seen you before,” Gina said in a soft, velvet tone.  She seemed guarded while she looked him over.

“I frequent another bar across town.  Coworkers from the brokerage company I work for often go there.”

She wrinkled up her nose.  “Oh, you’re one of those.”

“Why?  You don’t like the business?” Sean asked, taking a seat next to her.

“It’s just that the stock market is so, well, unpredictable.  I just don’t understand what’s so fun about doing work based on guesses.”

Sean thought of many other questions, but decided to not start waves this early.  “Hmm.  What do you do when you’re not playing pool?”
“I teach kindergarten at one of the private schools in the area.  Otherwise, I keep to myself.”  Gina glanced past him.  “I think they’re becoming impatient.  Ready to play?”  She stood and stepped toward the pool tables on the other side of the room.
Sean followed.  “You bet.  Rack ‘em up.”
“Best out of three?”
“Sure.  Lady’s first.”
“Uh, Sean, that may be a mistake,” Pete warned.
Sean panned the room to find shaking heads all around.  “It’s cool guys.  I’d like to see what she’s got.”
“Your funeral.”  Pete backed away from the table.
Sean ignored his pal and nodded for Gina to take her first shot.  After she pocketed four balls, Sean suddenly realized the prowess with which she played.  Each shot possessed her full attention.  Her stance never wavered once her study of the current layout was complete.  The cue slid through her fingers as if coated with butter.
She’s good.  Too good.
Sean determined not to mess up the only shot she’d probably let him have during the game.  However, as he surveyed the table, he realized, to his dismay, that his shot would be more difficult to make than hers.  He’d have to hit the cue into one of hers to get to his.  He had no intention of pocketing a ball for Gina.
He leaned over the table and exhaled before banking the cue ball into two of his, pocketing one.
I’m still in the game.
Sweat dripped off his chin as he made one shot after another.  Then the unexpected happened.
She winked at him.
She’d used the same tactic he used on her and it worked.  His heart pumped a bit faster, just enough to distract him for a split second.  He stared at the ball teetering near the pocket and sighed.  He knew she would pocket his ball in order to make her next shot, but that wouldn’t help him.  She wasn’t going to mess up twice.
Gina won the first game bringing on a loud cheer from the others Sean learned she had consistently beaten over the past few months.  Sean strolled over to her and gave her hand a congratulatory shake.
“Great game,” he said. That won’t happen again.
