Today, I have the pleasure and honor to introduce to you a special guest, a fellow author and friend - VR McCoy. Let's give him a big hand and find out as much as possible about his latest release Shaman -The Awakening - a compelling intriguing story.

 Brief synopsis  

Shaman - The Awakening is a gripping supernatural thriller, filled with brilliant and in-depth descriptions and shamanistic lore.Christopher Sands is an FBI Profiler with a unique ability. When his ViCAP unit takes on another serial killer investigation, they soon find themselves in deeper than they bargained for. The killer seems to be ahead of them at every turn. The search for the mysterious killer takes Christopher and his unit from the Mystic Crossroads of New Mexico to the transcendental Four Corners and deep into the Navajo Nation.

Author bio:

VR McCoy is a native of Washington, D.C. He attended Archbishop Carroll High School (High School of the famed Alex Cross/ James Patterson Character) and Howard University. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a writer of crime thrillers and supernatural thrillers.

The author was kind to answer several question to let readers and fans know him, and his writing, better. Here they are:

1.  Who is the most complex character from your current novel?

The protagonist is the most complex character. We witness his journey as he discovers himself and the duality that he faces being of mixed races, cultures and his commitments. He is ambivalent about where he belongs and holds a grudge against his Native American heritage that he feels rejected him. He sheds his cocoon; sort of speak, and is enlightened (Awakened) while getting in touch with his roots and unique abilities. All of this is occurring while the clock is ticking down on the capture of a mysterious serial killer. 

2. Which character, besides the protagonist, would you like to interview from your novel?

Nina Blackwater, the Bureau of Indian Affairs Liaison. She’s a strong intelligent woman who juggles differing cultures with ease and tries to assist the protagonist with his self awareness. She is the glue that holds him together.

3. Are there any characters in your book that remind you of yourself?

Of course; there’s a little bit of me in most of the characters I create, but the protagonist definitely has some of my traits. This novel has a lot of character traits of people who I know or have met in the past.

 
4. If you could pick any well known or famous author to review your book who would you pick and why?

It would be James Patterson. He writes in the same genres as I do.

5. What genre and age group does your book fall into?

My publisher calls the latest novel, “Shaman-The Awakening,” a supernatural thriller. I called it a paranormal crime thriller, but it also has mystery and suspense within it. I think a good thriller has to have the elements of mystery and suspense. We agreed upon it being called a supernatural thriller.

The age group that the novel is targeting is the young adult and adult group. 

6. What is the first book you remember reading, that affected how you thought or felt about something?

“To kill a Mockingbird.” I’ve always admired the people who stood up for what they believe in. The outsider who goes against the popular opinion.

7. How many books have you written? 

I have written several unpublished manuscripts like most of us and two published novels; “Den of Thieves” and “Shaman-The Awakening.” Shaman-The Awakening is the first book of the Shaman series contracted by my publisher.

8. What were three challenges you faced when writing your book?

a) Juggling my religious beliefs and not going too far into the morality of certain dogmas and atrocities uncovered during my research. It is a fictional work for entertainment, but I do like to make my readers aware.

b) The research was more extensive than the previous novel because there were certain issues covered that were personal to me.

c) Finding a suitable cover. I couldn't obtain the copyrights for the original art work in mind, but the creative minds from Creativia Publishing and The Cover Collection solved the problem. It took a little while until we could find something suitable, but overall I was elated with the final product.

9. Do you study science, criminology, police, medical or anything special to help you with your writing?

I was a pre-med student at Howard University and ended up working for the Diplomatic Security Service. DSS is like the Secret Service, but for the Department of State/ Secretary of State. Therefore I have an extensive background in science and criminology.  

10. What projects can we expect from you in the near future?

I’m going to be busy with the Shaman series, which has several spin-off novels as well as the series itself. It is an endeavour I’m taking on with Creativia Publishing. I also have a novel currently being edited by J Ellington Ashton Press. It is called “Those Without Sin”. It is a political crime thriller inspired by true events.
